A rectangular plaque worn across the finger, filled edge to edge with copper scrollwork in relief — split leaves and stems curling back on themselves against an oxidised black ground. A faceted magenta stone sits low on the right of the panel, ringed by its own circle of small beads, and a border of silver beads runs the whole way around the plaque like stitching. The scrollwork belongs to the family Turkish decorative art calls rumi: a stylised split leaf that turns and doubles back so the pattern reads as continuous growth with no obvious start. Cast flat it would look like wallpaper. Raised in copper against a blackened ground it behaves differently — every curl throws a shadow, and the panel changes as the hand moves. The stone is the only colour in the piece, and it is placed off-centre on purpose. Set in the middle it would have halved the panel and stopped the scroll dead; set low and to one side it works as a full stop the eye arrives at after following the pattern, which is how a jewel sits in Ottoman metalwork rather than how a solitaire sits in a modern ring. Two curved copper crescents flank the plaque, one on each shoulder, each pinned with a single round bead. They are structural as much as decorative: they brace the long panel where it meets the band and give the ring its silhouette from the side, which is the angle a big east-west face is usually seen from. Underneath, the shank is sterling silver, oxidised to match the ground of the panel so nothing competes with the copper. Two metals and a stone, all set by hand in our Cappadocia workshop. The copper will deepen to a warmer brown with wear — that patina is why we use solid copper rather than a plated finish — and a copper-safe polish returns it to bright whenever you prefer the scroll sharp.

What metals is this ring made of?
The plaque, the band, the beaded border and the bead surround at the stone are solid 925 sterling silver. The scrollwork across the panel and the two crescents at the shoulders are copper. Nothing on this ring is plated — both metals are solid.
Is the stone securely set?
Yes. It sits in a closed bezel — metal wrapped around the girdle of the stone rather than prongs gripping it — which is the most secure everyday setting there is, and the reason it can be worn on a ring this size without catching. The ring of beads around it is decorative and sits proud of the bezel.
Why is the stone off to one side?
Because centring it would cut the scrollwork in half. Placed low and to the right it becomes the point the eye arrives at after following the pattern across the panel, which is how a stone is used in Ottoman metalwork — as the end of a composition rather than the whole of it.
Will the copper darken over time?
Yes, and that is intended. Solid copper deepens to a warm brown with wear and skin contact — it is not tarnish and it is not a fault. A copper-safe polish, or a soft cloth with a little lemon and salt, brings the scrollwork back to bright in a minute.
What are the curved bars on the sides for?
Both structure and silhouette. They brace the long plaque where it meets the band, and they give the ring its shape seen from the side — which is how a face set across the finger is most often viewed. Each one is pinned with a single bead rather than glued or clipped.
What ring sizes are available, and can it be resized?
Available sizes are shown in the size selector. If yours is not listed, message us before ordering and we will make it to measure in the workshop.
How do I clean it?
A dry polishing cloth on the copper scroll and the silver beads. If dust collects in the recesses of the pattern, rinse under warm water with a soft brush and dry it fully, keeping the stone dry afterwards. Never use a liquid silver dip — it strips the black ground and attacks the copper.
Where is it made?
In our own workshop in Cappadocia, Turkey. The scrollwork is raised, the beads applied and the stone set by the same silversmith, so no two rings are exactly alike.
