Description
A long rectangular plaque set across the finger rather than along it, framed in bronze, with a bronze tulip stem running the full length of the panel in relief — blooms opening at both ends, small leaves and a bud between them, and a bronze bead closing one end like a full stop. The east-west setting is the decision the whole ring is built on. Turned this way the face reads as a panel, not as a jewel: it follows the line of the hand rather than cutting across it, and it fills the space between the knuckles instead of standing above it. It is also why the tulip is laid out horizontally, as a running stem, rather than as a single upright flower. That layout has a source. On Ottoman tile work the tulip appears two ways — as a single stem inside a medallion, and as a repeating stem running along a border or frieze. This ring takes the second form. The stem travels left to right across the panel the way it would along the top of a tiled wall, which is why the composition reads as continuous rather than centred. The ground behind it is sterling silver, hammered into a dense pitted texture and oxidised almost black, so the bronze relief lifts clearly off it. The bronze rim then closes the panel on all four sides and softens the corners, which keeps a rectangle this long from looking severe on the hand. The shoulders split into two silver rails that open out before they meet the plaque. That drops weight from the underside and gives the long face a wide, stable footing — a plaque set east-west on a single narrow band would swivel. Two metals, two ways of ageing. The silver keeps its oxidised contrast; the bronze will deepen to a warmer brown with wear, and a bronze-safe polish takes it back to bright whenever you want the relief sharp again. Made by hand in our Cappadocia workshop. The hammering behind the tulip is struck freehand, so the ground is different on every ring.

FAQs
What metals is this ring made of?
The plaque, the band and the split shoulders are solid 925 sterling silver. The tulip relief, the rim around the panel and the bead at the end are bronze. Nothing on this ring is plated — both metals are solid.
What does "east-west" mean, and how does it wear?
It means the long axis of the face lies across the finger rather than pointing up it. In practice the ring sits lower and flatter than a tall statement ring, follows the line of the hand, and fills the space between the knuckles — bold to look at, but less in the way than its size suggests.
How is this different from your teardrop tulip ring?
Same workshop, same two metals, different form. The teardrop carries a single upright tulip inside a pointed frame and stands up off the hand. This one is a horizontal panel with a running stem, set east-west, and sits flatter. If you want the flower as a portrait, take the teardrop; if you want it as a border, take this.
Will the bronze darken over time?
Yes, and that is intended. Solid bronze develops a warm brown patina with wear — it is not tarnish and it is not a fault. A bronze-safe polish brings the relief and rim back to bright gold whenever you prefer the sharper contrast.
Is the tulip applied or stamped into the surface?
Applied. It is bronze in relief, standing proud of a silver ground that was hammered first, so it casts its own shadow across the panel. It is not stamped or etched into the face.
Does a long face like this rotate on the finger?
The shoulders split into two rails that widen well before the plaque, which spreads the load and holds the panel level. A snug size rather than a loose one keeps it steadiest, as with any large-faced ring.
What ring sizes are available, and can it be resized?
Available sizes are shown in the size selector. If yours is not listed, message us before ordering and we will make it to measure in the workshop.
How do I clean it?
A dry polishing cloth on the bronze relief and rim. If dust collects in the hammered ground or the split shoulders, rinse under warm water with a soft brush and dry it fully. Never use a liquid silver dip — it strips the oxidation behind the tulip and attacks the bronze.
Where is it made?
In our own workshop in Cappadocia, Turkey. The ground is hammered, the shoulders split and the bronze tulip set by the same silversmith, so no two rings are exactly alike.
