Description

A wide sterling silver band built from separate strips that wrap diagonally around the finger and overlap where they cross. Each strip carries its own hand-worked bark texture — fine parallel striations, no two runs identical — and the oxidation collects in the gaps between the layers, so the ring reads as light and shadow rather than a single grey surface. The texture is cut and struck into the silver by hand, not cast from a mould. That is why the striations change direction from one strip to the next and why the raised edges catch light while the recesses stay dark. As the ring is worn the high points polish themselves brighter, which increases the contrast rather than flattening it. The inside is deliberately the opposite of the outside: a smooth, polished band with no texture at all. A wide ring is only wearable if the inner surface is clean, so all the work stays on the face and nothing catches or presses against the finger. At [__] mm wide it covers a good part of the finger and sits as the only ring on the hand. It weighs around [__] g — substantial, but the wrap construction keeps it from feeling like a solid block of metal. There is no stone and no second metal here. The whole piece is 925 sterling silver, and everything you see is surface: texture, oxidation, and the way the layers cross. Is this ring solid sterling silver?

Yes — 925 sterling silver all the way through, inside and out. There is no plating, no stone and no second metal. The dark tone is oxidation on the silver itself, not a coating.

Will the dark oxidised finish wear off?

The oxidation sits in the recesses between the layers, where nothing rubs, so it stays. The raised edges will brighten with wear — that increases the contrast and is how the ring is meant to age. Never use a liquid silver dip: it strips the dark tone in seconds and leaves the ring flat grey.

Is a ring this wide comfortable?

The inside is a smooth polished band with no texture, which is what makes the width wearable. Everything decorative stays on the outer face, so nothing catches on skin or presses when you bend your finger.

Does the texture snag on clothing?

No. The striations are shallow surface work with no raised prongs or open edges, so the ring passes over fabric cleanly.
