Description
A square face of hand-hammered sterling silver with a square window cut out of the middle, and an openwork copper knot set into the opening. The frame is darkened in the hammer marks and the copper is left bright, so the two sit against each other without either one having to shout. The frame is struck by hand until the whole surface is covered in overlapping dimples, then oxidised and polished back so the raised metal stays light and the hollows stay dark. On a square face this matters more than it would on a round one: the flat planes and the four sharp corners would read as cold and machined if the surface were smooth, and the hammering is what keeps them warm. The centre is a separate element — copper wire coiled and looped into a dense interlaced knot that fills the window and is open front and back. Hold the ring to the light and you can see through it. The knot is deliberately irregular, wound rather than drawn, so it reads as something made rather than something cast. The band is the quiet part: plain polished silver, no texture at all. Everything decorative stays on the face, which keeps the ring comfortable and stops a square this size from feeling heavy on the hand. Two metals means two ways of ageing. The silver frame holds its oxidised contrast and brightens on the high points with wear. The copper knot will deepen into a warmer, browner tone over the months — that patina is part of the design, and a copper-safe cleaner brings it back if you prefer it bright. Made by hand in our Cappadocia workshop. The hammering and the way the copper knot is wound differ on every ring.

FAQs
What metals is this ring made of?
The square frame and the band are solid 925 sterling silver. The knot in the centre is copper, chosen for the warm colour against the oxidised silver. Nothing on this ring is plated.
Will the copper centre change colour over time?
It will, and that is expected. Copper darkens into a warmer brown tone with wear and skin contact. If you prefer it bright, a copper-safe polish or a soft cloth with a little lemon and salt restores the original colour in a minute.
Is the centre solid or can you see through it?
It is open. The copper is wound into a knot that fills the window but leaves gaps all the way through, so light passes behind it. That openness is what keeps a face this size from looking like a solid slab.
Do the square corners catch on things?
The corners are softened and filed smooth rather than left as points, so the ring passes over most fabrics cleanly. A square face does sit more squarely on the hand than a round one — that is the look — so it is more noticeable to wear than a plain band.
Will the dark oxidised finish rub off the frame?
The oxidation sits in the hammered hollows, where hands rarely touch, so it lasts far longer than a surface coating. The raised points brighten with wear, which increases the contrast rather than removing it. Avoid liquid silver dips — they strip both the oxidation and the copper.
What ring sizes are available, and can it be resized?
Available sizes are shown in the size selector. If yours is not listed, message us before ordering and we will make it to measure in the workshop.
How do I clean it?
A dry polishing cloth on the raised hammer marks and the band. If dust settles in the knot, rinse under warm water with a soft brush and dry it fully. Keep dip solutions away from the ring entirely.
Where is it made?
In our own workshop in Cappadocia, Turkey. The frame is hammered and oxidised by hand and the copper knot is wound and set by the same silversmith, so no two rings are exactly alike.
